The term 21st century skills refers to a broad set of knowledge, skills, work habits, and character traits that are believed—by educators, school reformers, college professors, employers, and others—to be critically important to success in today’s world, particularly in collegiate programs and contemporary careers and workplaces. Generally speaking, 21st century skills can be applied in all academic subject areas, and in all educational, career, and civic settings throughout a student’s life.

The following are the skills that teachers should and must acquire to the learners:

Why should teachers must acquire the 21st Century Skills?

As we all know, the environment and society is fast improving and economically developing for different opportunities in local, national and international. These skills will prepare the young minds to become a highly competent and manageable of our protected and maintained resources. Teachers are the second parent of young minds that can cause a big influence of all, by teaching them with the help of applying the 21st century skills the students can adapt the changes that is happening in the society and technology.


What are the 21st Century Skills that a teacher should teach and emphasize to the future learners?

The skills that a teacher should emphasize and teach to the learners is the Societal Values Skills defined as development of favorable relationship and concern for the welfare of others. It is more important for the society as of now needs a person who is responsible, manageable, knowledgeable and have a good attitude to build relationship or a circle of community that provides a role model of everyone. The community needs people that doesn't start on judging what it has but, what it can do. What is the purpose of teaching a learner to become a productive and competent one if the attitude is already not acceptable to the societies needs and demands? Moreover, teaching learners with attitude will reflect on their minds and actions.

Applying one skill of the 21st Century Skill is a challenging one, it needs effort, dedication and commitment. I will choose to apply the Societal Values Skills in myself. This is because it is all about how you deal with your environment and society, to become the right citizen in that community. I practice on facing challenges, preparing myself on the upcoming demands that society may lay in shoulders. I will manage my time and availability for myself and for others needs. I will keep my attitude be respected and with dignity so, I will become one of the role models that young minds should follow, be motivated, inspired and believed.
